Terms of Service
Last updated: September 15, 2026
1. Welcome to Riffcharts
Welcome to RiffCharts
RiffCharts is an independent music platform designed to connect musicians, music creators, listeners, reviewers, and fans. RiffCharts allows users to upload music, discover independent artists, listen to music, provide ratings and critiques, participate in the community, and—when enabled by the uploader—download music subject to the applicable download permissions and license terms.
These Terms of Service constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Riffcharts.
By creating an account, uploading Content, submitting a rating or critique, downloading Content, or otherwise using RiffCharts, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use RiffCharts.
2. Eligibility
Eligibility
You must meet the minimum age requirements applicable to your location to create an account or use interactive features of RiffCharts\.
Unless RiffCharts expressly permits otherwise, you must be at least **13 years old** to create an account\.
If you are under the age of majority where you live, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agrees to these Terms on your behalf where required by law\.
RiffCharts may restrict or terminate accounts when it reasonably believes that an account does not meet applicable age requirements\.
RiffCharts is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without legally required parental consent\. Our Privacy Policy contains additional information concerning children’s privacy.
3. Riffcharts accounts
Certain features require an account\.

- Not create accounts for fraudulent or abusive purposes;
- Not create multiple accounts for the purpose of manipulating ratings, rankings, critiques, downloads, engagement, or other platform activity;
- Immediately notify RiffCharts if you believe your account has been compromised\.
You are responsible for activity occurring through your account unless the activity resulted from RiffCharts’ own wrongdoing\.
RiffCharts may require additional verification to protect the platform from fraud, abuse, copyright infringement, automated activity, or other misuse\.
4. Definitions
For purposes of these Terms:
**“Content”** means music, audio recordings, compositions, lyrics, beats, samples, artwork, photographs, videos, text, reviews, critiques, ratings, comments, profile information, and other material submitted, uploaded, displayed, transmitted, or otherwise made available through RiffCharts\.

**“Critique”** means an individual’s opinion, evaluation, analysis, or commentary regarding music or other Content\.
**“Rating”** means a numerical evaluation, including RiffCharts’ one\-through\-ten rating system\.
Artist Ownership of Uploaded Content
RiffCharts does **not** claim ownership of music merely because an artist uploads it to RiffCharts\.
Except for rights expressly granted to RiffCharts under these Terms, you retain ownership of the intellectual property rights that you own in your Content\.
However, uploading Content to RiffCharts requires you to grant RiffCharts certain rights necessary to operate the platform, as described below\.
You are responsible for determining what rights you own and what additional permissions you need before uploading Content\.
6. Your Representations Regarding Uploaded Content
By uploading Content to RiffCharts, you represent and warrant that:
1. You own the Content or have obtained all necessary rights, licenses, permissions, releases, and authorizations to use and upload it\.
2. You have authority to grant RiffCharts the license described in these Terms\.
3. You have obtained all necessary rights concerning the underlying musical composition and the sound recording\.
4. Where applicable, you have obtained appropriate rights concerning:
- Beats;
- Samples;
- Loops;
- Interpolations;
- Remixes;
- Cover songs;
- Featured artists;
- Producers;
- Session musicians;
- Background vocals;
- Record labels;
- Co\-writers;
- Artwork;
- Photographs;
- Videos;
- Spoken\-word material; and
- Other third\-party material\.
5. Your Content does not knowingly infringe another person’s copyright, trademark, publicity, privacy, contractual, or other legal rights\.
6. You have obtained necessary permissions from other contributors whose rights are implicated by your Content\.
7. Your Content is not subject to an agreement that prevents you from granting the rights necessary for its use on RiffCharts\.
8. You will not upload Content that you know or reasonably should know is stolen, unauthorized, pirated, or unlawfully obtained\.
RiffCharts may request documentation demonstrating your rights to Content when reasonably necessary to investigate a copyright complaint or other legal issue\.
7. License You Grant to RiffCharts
When you upload Content, you grant RiffCharts a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use your Content solely as reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, improve, promote, secure, and provide the RiffCharts services.
This license may include the right to:
• Host and store your Content;
• Reproduce your Content;
• Process and encode your Content into technical formats;

• Display your Content;
• Make your Content available to other users according to your selected settings;
• Create technical copies and backups;
• Display your artist name and profile information;
• Display artwork associated with your Content;
• Create technical previews or excerpts where reasonably necessary for platform operation or promotion;
• Promote RiffCharts and its music community using your publicly available Content;
• Deliver Content through content-delivery networks and service providers;
• Perform security, moderation, and copyright-related processing; and
• Otherwise provide the features you have requested.
This license does not transfer ownership of your Content to RiffCharts.
RiffCharts will not acquire ownership of your copyright simply because you upload your Content.
8. Removal of Your Content
Subject to applicable law and any necessary retention obligations, you may request removal of your Content\.
Removing Content does not necessarily require RiffCharts to immediately erase every technical copy, backup, database record, cached copy, or legally required record\.
RiffCharts may retain limited copies when reasonably necessary for:
- Legal compliance;
- Copyright disputes;
- Fraud investigations;
- Security;
- Enforcement of these Terms;
- Accounting or business records;
- Backup systems; or
- Other legitimate legal or operational purposes\.
9. Music Downloads
Artists may have the ability to decide whether their Content is available for download\.
A download does **not** automatically transfer ownership or copyright to the downloader\.
Unless the Artist expressly provides broader rights, downloading Content from RiffCharts grants the downloader only the limited rights expressly associated with that download\.
A downloader may not:
- Claim ownership of the music;
- Register someone else’s Content as their own;
- Sell the Content;
- Redistribute the Content;
- Upload it to another platform;
- Make it publicly available;
- Use it commercially;
- License it to another person;
- Create derivative works;
- Remix it;
- Sample it;
- Synchronize it with video;
- Use it in advertising; or
- Otherwise exploit the Content,
unless the applicable Artist or copyright owner has expressly authorized that use\.
Artists are responsible for selecting appropriate download permissions for their Content\.
RiffCharts may provide different download\-license options and may modify those options as the platform develops\.
10. Download Permission Does Not Transfer Copyright
A person who downloads music understands that:
**Downloading a file is not the same thing as purchasing or receiving ownership of the copyright\.**
Copyright remains with the applicable copyright owner unless ownership has been separately transferred through a valid agreement\.
-Ratings and Premium Music Critique
RiffCharts may allow users to rate music using a numerical scale, including a one\-through\-ten rating system, and may offer written or structured Premium Music Critique features\.
Ratings and critiques represent the individual opinions of the users who submit them\.
A rating is not a guarantee, certification, professional determination, or objective measurement of artistic quality\.
RiffCharts does not guarantee that ratings or critiques will be:
- Positive;
- Accurate;
- Fair;
- Consistent;
- Professional;
- Complimentary; or
- Agreeable to the Artist\.
Artists agree that legitimate criticism—including criticism they strongly disagree with—is part of participating in a public music community\.
11. Ratings and Premium Music Critique
RiffCharts may allow users to rate music using a numerical scale, including a one-through-ten rating system, and may offer written or structured Premium Music Critique features.

• Fair;
• Consistent;
• Professional;
• Complimentary; or
• Agreeable to the Artist.
Artists agree that legitimate criticism—including criticism they strongly disagree with—is part of participating in a public music community.

Users must submit ratings and critiques based on their genuine opinions and experiences.
You may not:
• Create fake ratings;
• Purchase fake ratings;

RiffCharts may remove ratings, suspend accounts, adjust rankings, restrict voting privileges, or take other enforcement action when it reasonably believes that ratings or critiques have been manipulated.
RiffCharts’ policies concerning genuine reviews are designed in part to prevent deceptive review practices and sentiment-based manipulation. (Federal Trade Commission)

23. DMCA Copyright Policy — Overview
Effective Date: September 4, 2026 Last Updated: September 5, 2026 RiffCharts respects the intellectual property rights of artists, musicians, songwriters, producers, labels, publishers, and other copyright owners. RiffCharts is a platform that allows users to upload and share music and other creative content for listening, discovery, rating, critique, and community interaction. Because RiffCharts hosts user-submitted content, we have established this Copyright and DMCA Policy to provide a process for copyright owners to report material they believe infringes their copyrights. This policy is intended to operate in accordance with applicable United States copyright law, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”), 17 U.S.C. § 512, where applicable.
23.1. RiffCharts Does Not Claim Ownership of User Music
RiffCharts does not acquire ownership of music simply because an artist uploads it to the platform. Artists and other users remain responsible for ensuring that they own or have obtained the necessary rights to upload and make their Content available through RiffCharts. The RiffCharts Terms of Service require users to represent that they have the necessary rights and permissions for Content they upload.
23.2. Copyright Infringement Reports
If you believe that music, artwork, video, text, or other Content available through RiffCharts infringes your copyright, you may submit a copyright infringement notice to RiffCharts. A properly submitted DMCA notice should contain sufficient information for RiffCharts to identify the copyrighted work, identify the allegedly infringing material, and contact the complaining party.
23.3. Information Required in a DMCA Notice
To the extent required by applicable law, a copyright infringement notification should include: A. Identification of the Copyrighted Work Identify the copyrighted work that you claim has been infringed. If multiple copyrighted works are involved, you may provide a representative list where permitted. B. Identification of the RiffCharts Content Provide sufficient information to allow RiffCharts to locate the allegedly infringing material. This should include, when available: * RiffCharts song title; * Artist or uploader name; * RiffCharts profile URL; * Song URL; * Screenshot; * Other identifying information; and * Any other information reasonably helpful in locating the Content. C. Your Contact Information Provide: * Full legal name; * Mailing address; * Telephone number; and * Email address. If you are submitting the notice on behalf of a copyright owner, identify the copyright owner and explain your authority to act on their behalf. D. Good-Faith Statement The notice should include a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law. E. Accuracy and Authority Statement The notice should include a statement that the information provided is accurate and, under applicable law, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner. F. Signature The notice should contain a physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on the owner’s behalf. These requirements are based on the information generally required for a compliant DMCA notification under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3). The U.S. Copyright Office provides additional information concerning copyright notices and the DMCA framework.
23.4. Where to Send a Copyright Notice
DMCA notices should be sent to RiffCharts’ designated copyright agent: RiffCharts DMCA Agent DMCA Email: support@riffcharts.com Do not send general customer-service questions to the DMCA address unless they concern copyright infringement.
23.5. What Happens After We Receive a Notice
When RiffCharts receives a copyright complaint, we may: 1. Review the notice for completeness; 2. Determine whether the notice identifies the allegedly infringing Content; 3. Contact the uploader; 4. Remove or disable access to Content where appropriate; 5. Notify the uploader of the complaint; 6. Preserve relevant information where reasonably necessary; 7. Request additional information; 8. Consider a counter-notification where applicable; and 9. Take other action permitted or required by law. RiffCharts does not determine copyright ownership through a judicial proceeding and does not guarantee that every dispute can be resolved internally.
23.6. Temporary Removal or Disabling of Content
When appropriate or required by applicable law, RiffCharts may remove or disable access to Content identified in a copyright complaint. The fact that Content is removed does not necessarily mean RiffCharts has determined that the uploader committed infringement. Content may be temporarily restricted while a copyright dispute is being evaluated.
23.7. Notice to the Uploader
Where appropriate and permitted by law, RiffCharts may notify the user who uploaded the allegedly infringing Content. The notification may include information from the copyright complaint. Users should understand that information contained in a DMCA notice may be shared with the affected uploader where appropriate or legally required.
23.8. Counter-Notification
If you believe your Content was removed or disabled because of a mistake or misidentification, you may have the right to submit a DMCA counter-notification. A counter-notification generally must include information required by applicable law, which may include: * Identification of the removed or disabled Content; * The location where the Content appeared before removal; * A statement made under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief that the Content was removed or disabled because of mistake or misidentification; * Your name, address, and telephone number; * A statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the appropriate federal district court as required by applicable law; and * Your physical or electronic signature. A counter-notification should only be submitted when you genuinely believe the removal resulted from mistake or misidentification. Submitting knowingly false information may expose you to legal consequences.
23.9. Processing Counter-Notifications
After receiving a valid counter-notification, RiffCharts may forward the counter-notification to the complaining copyright owner as permitted or required by law. Where the applicable statutory requirements are satisfied, RiffCharts may restore the removed Content after the applicable waiting period unless the copyright owner informs RiffCharts that it has filed a court action concerning the allegedly infringing Content. The specific process and timing will be governed by applicable law.
23.10. Repeat Copyright Infringers
RiffCharts may terminate or restrict accounts belonging to users who are repeat copyright infringers where required or appropriate under applicable law. RiffCharts may consider factors including: * Number of valid copyright complaints; * Whether previous complaints were resolved; * Whether Content was restored; * Whether the user repeatedly uploads allegedly infringing material; * Whether the user creates new accounts to circumvent termination; and * Other relevant circumstances. RiffCharts may also take action against users who knowingly submit fraudulent or abusive copyright complaints.
23.11. False or Fraudulent Copyright Claims
Copyright complaints must be truthful. You may not submit a copyright complaint concerning Content: * You do not own; * You are not authorized to represent the owner of; * You know is authorized; * You know is lawful; * Solely because you dislike the artist; * Solely to harass another user; or * For the purpose of suppressing legitimate criticism or competition. Knowingly making materially false statements in a copyright complaint or counter-notification may have legal consequences.
23.12. Copyright Ownership Disputes
RiffCharts may receive competing claims from multiple people concerning the same song or recording. For example, a dispute may involve: * Multiple songwriters; * Producers; * Artists; * Record labels; * Publishers; * Beat creators; * Sample owners; * Co-owners; or * Other rights holders. RiffCharts generally cannot determine complex ownership disputes between competing parties. RiffCharts may restrict access to disputed Content while the parties resolve the matter or obtain an appropriate legal determination.
23.13. Samples, Beats, Covers, Remixes, and Collaborations
Uploading a recording does not necessarily mean that the uploader owns every copyright associated with that recording. Users are responsible for obtaining appropriate permissions for: * Samples; * Beats; * Loops; * Cover songs; * Remixes; * Interpolations; * Featured performances; * Producer contributions; * Co-written compositions; * Background vocals; * Third-party recordings; and * Other copyrighted material. A user may own the sound recording they created while another person owns rights in the underlying composition or incorporated material.
